The Psychiatric Characteristics of Repeated Suicide Attempters
Song Dong-Ho

Abstract
This study aims to identify the clinico-demographic characteristics of repeated suicide attempters compared to non-repeated suicide attempters. We conducted interviews using Risk Estimators for Suicide(RES), Suicide Intent Scale(SIS), Scale of Suicide Ideation(SSI), Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression(HAMD). All subjects were given the DSM-IV diagnosis. Mean age of Repeated attempters was significantly higher than that of Non-repeated attempters. Compared with Non-repeated attempters, Repeated attempters showed more experiences of ¡¯divorced or separated¡¯ marital status and of
major psychiatric illnesses such as major depression, schizophrenia, alcoholism etc. The scale scores of RES, SIS, SSI, and HAMD were significantly higher in Repeated attempters compared with Non-repeated attempters. This results suggest that Repeated suicide attempters tend to have more severe psychopathologies and higher suicide risks than Non-repeated suicide attempters.
